"La Bamba," by Ritchie Valens
The song I chose to write about today actually makes me so happy. I chose “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens because it reminds me of childhood memories with my dad. My dad went on an LDS mission to Portugal and he became very good at speaking Portuguese. Then, he started working construction where he switched from Portuguese being his second language to Spanish. He worked with many others, most of them being Mexicans. Since the music was always up to them, my dad brought back a lot of Mexican songs for us to listen to. This song makes me want to get up and dance, and it always makes me think of my dad.
I love the addition of claves in this song because they really help emphasize the beat. One of my favorite parts however is when all the parts pause for a moment before returning to the chorus. It adds a nice breath and I feel it just adds to the song in general. I also love the many different guitars played in this one song! It all makes for the perfect dance song, which works out because the song is literally about getting up and dancing.
Oh my gosh I love this! I love that you found a memory to remember when you hear this song. I think it is very neat when music can make us think of and remember our families and our friends. I love how you also said it makes you want to jump up and dance because I think that the best music makes you do that.
ReplyDeleteIts always so awesome when you fin d a son g that makes you think about old memories! I recently went to Country Thunder and the songs I got to experience live took me trip down memory lane for sure! Songs that are wrote from the heart sometimes find their way into our hearts.
ReplyDeleteHaylee I really like how this song carries all those memories for you! It's amazing how a piece of music can carry so much nostalgia. I have a lot of memories connected to the song "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes. My father was a fifth grade teacher and while he graded paper he would play a lot of 60s. It brings me back to hanging out with my father and enjoying all the fun toys he had lying around the classroom. It really emphasizes those amazing moments in your life!
