“I’m so Lonesome I Could Cry,” by Hank Williams
I decided to switch things up this week and go with a slower, a bit sadder song. Hank William’s “I’m so Lonesome I Could Cry” embodies what I feel a lot of us can say we’ve felt before. This isn’t the typical song I would add to my sad playlists, but I could see myself listening to this song and crying. Especially when it’s one of those nights where you’re overwhelmed and underslept (sleep deprivation does something to a person). The gentle guitar and slow beat gives the perfect midnight kind of vibe. What would make this song even better would be to listen with headphones and rain sounds.
I really like the lyrics to this song. Hank personifies exactly what it feels like when you’re all alone, in the middle of the night, left with your thoughts. There’s times where all I want to do is cry too. One of the lyrics that particularly caught my eye was when he said, “I’ve never seen a night so long, When time goes crawling by.” There is nothing worse than wanting so badly to fall asleep but not being able to. Being left with your thoughts makes the night seem so long at times. These lyrics remind me of one of my favorite band’s song, “Praying for Daylight” by Rascal Flatts. Both songs talks about waiting for the sunrise so they won’t be left alone at night anymore. I personally love both songs.
Thank you for your post! I love how music in general can be related with other people. In this song in particular, Hank did a perfect job to help people have some of their first experiences with sad songs in a crooning way. I also loved the way they ended the song which gave it a good stand still moment.
ReplyDeleteHi Haylee! I love this post. First and foremost, the title is pretty sad :/ BUT I do like that it displays the mood of the song off the bat.
ReplyDeleteWhen time goes by so slowly, it isn't the most enjoyable thing there is. I know everyone can relate to that. It is a very relaxing song though, and I don't dislike any bit of it.
This song is a little bit different from the other songs that I have listened to so far for the blogs because it is much slower and more depressing in a way from the upbeat songs with faster tempos that are easy for dancing that are much more popular in this era.
