"Blue Yodel No. 2," by Jimmie Rodgers
To kick off this week, I decided to review Jimmie Rodger’s “Blue Yodel No. 2.” Country music is one of my favorite genres, so I am super glad that we are being introduced to it now. Not that I would listen to yodel necessarily by my own free will, but I do love it occasionally. I think it is pretty fancy how smooth his voice can change notes like that. It reminds me of the Walmart yodel boy from a few years ago. Jimmie walked so he could run. To me, it is crazy how the butterfly effect works. To think this is where country music started, with Jimmie as the “father of country,” and how far it is now.
I also love the music for this song. It is him and his guitar, and I love that. This song gives me driving through the mountains vibes. When I was younger, my family would always listen to country on road trips. We would listen to groups like Rascal Flatts, or singers such as Tim McGraw. I love listening to songs by Jimmie Rodgers and comparing them to country songs we have nowadays. Especially Blue Yodel No. 2, I could see myself adding this to my country playlist.
Woah, country music enjoyer, that’s a rare breed from where I’m from. Cool to see someone else enjoy the laidback vibes of country. I really liked your blog. Reading that story about your family was heartwarming. Not a lot of others have managed to show off their personal attachment to the music. But you’ve done that wonderfully this week. Well done!
